Local Development
Permaculture i
n El Salvador is a grassroots movement whose aim is to change the way we think and act – as individuals, families, communities and institutions. Traditional development strategies foster dependency, handing out packages of aid based on agro chemicals or material investment without building the capacity of the people to find their own solutions. So permaculture communities organize themselves in local networks and, with our help, encourage cooperation between local institutions and educate them in more sustainable ways of supporting the communities. IPES trains these local networks to strengthen their voice, access local radio, set up farmers markets and influence local strategic planning processes.
